COMMUNITIES had the chance to dance in the streets as part of a continuing music festival.

People in Chester-le-Street and Lanchester got into the swing of ceildidh dancing this week during events organised as part of Durham Brass festival.

Scottish street band Reel Brass provided the music for people to dance some well-known ceilidh dances, from Strip the Willow to the Gay Gordon.

The festival continues this weekend with two full days of music.

Concerts will be taking place across Durham between 11am and 5pm today and tomorrow, with performances planned for Market Place, Millennium Place, Whisky River, near Elvet Bridge, and Framwellgate Bridge.

The street bands hail from all over the world and play a range of music, from dance music, traditional hymns and twists on pop, funk and hip hop.

The Big Brass Bash finale also takes place at Wharton Park, in Durham, tonight between 6pm and 9pm.

The free concert is the final one in a series of events which have been taking place across the county this week.

The line-up includes Northern Monkey Brass Band, Back Chat Brass, Break Out Brass, Artistas Del Gremio, Funky Style Brass, Mr Wilson’s Second Liners and Brass Funkeys.
