A DRUNK driver who waited for police after crashing his car has been fined.

Chad Walker admitted one charge of drink driving following the incident in Stanhope Road North, Darlington, at about 7.45pm on June 6.

Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court heard yesterday how the father had intended to get a taxi following a work meeting where he had had five pints of Peroni but had made the "foolish" decision to drive.

He was found with 88mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

The court heard how the area manager, of Collingsway, Darlington, waited for the police at the scene and made full admissions when interviewed.

Walker was disqualified for 22 months but offered the driver disqualification rehabilitation course. He was also fined a total of £503.
