ACTRESS Roxanne Pallett has been airlifted to hospital following a high-speed crash into a concrete wall, according to reports.

The former Emmerdale star, 36, was taking part in a stock car race with her radio show co-host Ben Fry on July 18 at Hunmanby Raceway near the North Yorkshire coast when the incident occurred.

It is believed she lost consciousness and had to be freed from the wreckage by firefighters on Wednesday.

She had to remain in the wreckage for two hours as firefighters worked to cut her free, before she was airlifted 41 miles to Hull Royal Infirmary.

Ms Pallett, who co-hosts York and North Yorkshire station Minster FM's breakfast show is reported to have sprained both of her wrists and suffered severe bruising.

A spokesman from Minster FM said: "Unfortunately Roxy was involved in an accident yesterday. Minster FM colleagues and listeners wish her a speedy recovery and can’t wait to have her back in the studio, waking up North Yorkshire with Ben."

She is best known for starring as Jo Sugden in Emmerdale from 2005 until 2008.
