A DAIRY has been educating children by holding a series of activity days.
Embleton Hall Dairies, based in Sedgefield, recently held a series of school visits to the Village Farm Dairy, Mordon, and to its farm in Embleton.
Children discovered how milk from a cow is transformed to become the milk, cheese and yoghurt. They toured the working dairy farm, tried their hands at mozzarella cheese-making before taking part in an activity trail.
The tours were the result of a school competition by Embleton, which invited youngsters to dream up a recipe for their ideal milkshake.
The winners were Cestria Primary School, Cleadon Church of England School and Stanhope Primary School.
Jayne Behenna, from Cestria school, said: “The children really enjoyed their day. By watching everything first-hand, they were able to gain a highly-valuable insight into dairy farming and the dairy industry.”
