AN estimated 300 Darlington supporters made the trip to Eindhoven at the weekend to see their team play their latest pre-season friendly.

Quakers took on PSV Eindhoven’s under-23 side FC De Jong at the Dutch club’s training complex on Saturday, Darlington losing 3-1.

Goalkeeper Jonny Maddison saved Nikolai Laursen’s penalty early on, but a flurry of goals just before the break meant PSV led 2-1 at half-time.

Quakers fell behind when Justin Lonwijk scored on 38 minutes, an equaliser followed with Darlington defender Dom Collins heading home after a Joe Wheatley corner, but PSV went ahead in injury time thanks to Steven Theunissen.

And the Dutch hosts sealed their victory nine minutes into the second half through Robin Schoonbrood.

Regardless of the result, the weekend is deemed to have been a huge success for all concerned.
