SOARING temperatures have led to the cancellation of the popular Dogs Trust Fun Day in Darlington's South Park.

The popular event normally attracts hordes of dog lovers to the park to take part in a range of fun classes and games and browse stalls.

It was supposed to be getting under way today today (Sunday, July 15) but due to high temperatures forecast, the charity decided to pull the event.

A statement posted on the Dogs Trust website yesterday said: "With high temperatures predicted we have taken the decision to cancel our fun day tomorrow. (July 15)

"We do apologise for the short notice but you'll appreciate we have to put the welfare of visiting dogs and supporters first.

"Today the temperature on the field has risen to 26.7 in the shade and its predicted to be hotter tomorrow."
