STEPS are being taken to close the engineering skills gap in the North-East.

Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen visited Stockton’s Nordic Engineering Training and Testing Centre which works with regional businesses to fill the growing number of jobs in the engineering sector.

“There are a huge number of employment opportunities coming down the pipeline on Teesside and we have a two to three year window to make sure that we attract young local people and re-skill our adult learners to fill those roles,” said Mr Houchen.

“We need to make sure that we can offer investors the full package and also ensure that people in the region recognise that they can build a life with good career prospects right here in the Tees Valley.”
