CONSERVATIVE MP Kevin Hollinrake has expressed disappointment following the resignations of Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and Brexit Secretary David Davis.

The MP for Thirsk and Malton said: “It is disappointing, we at this time of all times need to show unity in our negotiations with the EU and if there are dissenting voices that isn’t helpful.”

On the feeling within the party at Westminster today, he added: “It is a similar feeling, people are disappointed it has come to this. Some people are very concerned about the proposals that the cabinet agreed on Friday and a lot of people in Parliament think it is a very sensible solution to a very difficult problem, and I am in that camp.

“I have not heard of one simple solution that will deal with all our key negotiations leaving the EU, single market, customs union, stopping free movement of people while still maintaining a situation where we have no borders between Northern Ireland.”

Asked if he thinks there could be a vote of 'no confidence' in Prime Minister Theresa May, Mr Hollinrake said that if there were 48 signatories taken to the chair of the 1922 Committee it could happen because that is the process.

He added: “If that happens, which I hope it doesn’t, the Prime Minister, I think, will win comfortably and our position will continue and this will be our ongoing negotiating position (on the EU).”
