NORTHUMBRIAN Water is investing £600,000 in upgrades to the sewerage network in Nunthorpe to reduce the risk of flooding in the area.

Work is due to start on Monday, July 16, on replacing the sewer that leads from Guisborough Road to York Road. A road diversion will be put in place from July 23, timed to coincide with the start of the school holidays.

Michelle Sell, the company's project manager, said: "This 20-week project will ensure the resilience of the sewer network for future generations and also reduce the risk of flooding in the area during times of heavy rainfall.

"We've carried out consultation with customers in the area, who have understood the need to carry out this work and have been supportive of what we are doing, and we will continue to keep them informed as we progress, including details of single lane or full road closures as and when they are required."
