AS the country continues to bask in a record breaking heatwave, Northumbrian Water is urging customers to use water wisely.

The company says, while water supplies in the North-East remain at normal levels for this time of year, it is good practice for everyone to be careful not to be wasteful.

The company has seen an increase in demand in recent days and, with groundwater and surface reservoir levels monitored constantly, required action can be taken should the situation change.

Martin Lunn, head of technical strategy for the firm said: “Our water supplies remain healthy at this time, and we are keeping a close eye on this as the warm weather continues.

“W have seen an increase in demand over the past week, but our message remains as it always is and we’re asking customers to use water wisely to help us manage supplies.

“Even small changes can make a big difference, so if you are watering plants do it early in the morning or later in the evening so they can absorb the moisture, remember to turn the tap off when brushing your teeth, and try to cut a minute off your morning shower.

“Whilst there is no overall shortage of water it is always important that people use water wisely, ensuring we don’t waste this precious resource.”
