A NEW board of directors in place ready to maintain a rising North-East football club’s forward momentum for the forthcoming season.

Spennymoor Town’s managing director, Tony Wilson, has appointed his management team ahead of his own start date, in September, so the former Northern League club will be ready to, “hit the ground running”, as it seeks to continue to move upwards from the National League North.

The new board at The Brewery Field comprises three figures with experience at board level of football clubs and businesses.

They are Debra Swinburn, a partner with Evans and Co Solicitors, former Durham City Fc director, Ian Walker, of James Burrell, and ex-Darlington FC chief executive and director, David Mills, who was an instrumental figure in the Quakers’ move to Blackwell Meadows.

Mr Wilson said: “I’m delighted to have secured the services of the trio, who will each bring something new and valuable to the club.

“We’re clear that Spennymoor’s excellent progress over recent years must be maintained, and our plans both on and off the pitch reflect this.

“We also need to reduce our reliance on the chief executive (Bradley Groves), who has previously outlined the necessity for us to become more self-sufficient.

“Having a strong, capable and invested board is an important first step in this.”

Mr Groves said: “I’m thrilled to have the new board in place to support Tony in executing our strategy over the coming seasons.

“This is the most formal the club’s structure has been and the most experience and expertise we’ve had at our disposal.

“I’m confident all four members of the board will be significant and valuable assets.”

Moors ended last season in a creditable eighth-place in the National League North, the sixth-tier in the game in this country.
