MEMBERS of the public are being invited to find out more about the improvements to Peterlee Leisure Centre at an open day this week.

The centre is benefitting from a £2 million investment, which will see a brand new library facility, refurbished pool changing rooms and a renovated reception space.

The feedback event will also include information on the Leisure Centre Accessibility Project, which will see the extension and reconfiguration of the existing car park to create an extra 20 bays, nine disabled bays and improved pedestrian and vehicular access.

A cycle shelter with space for ten bikes is also being created, as well as an overflow car park with 18 bays.

All work at the leisure centre is set to be completed by spring 2019.

Officers from Durham County Council, which is carrying out the work, will be at the venue from 10am to 2pm on Thursday to discuss the project timeline and answer any questions people may have.

Councillor Cllr Ossie Johnson, cabinet member for tourism, culture, leisure and rural issues, said: “The changes to Peterlee Leisure Centre will make a real difference to the local community and we are very keen to keep people updated on the work that has been done and answer any questions they have.

“The views of residents are very important to us and we welcome their thoughts and opinions on what they would like from the facility in the future.”

  • Anyone unable to make the feedback session can email sportandleisure@durham.gov.uk to ask any questions related to the project.
