A PHOTOGRAPHER captured the moment a car burst into flames on the A1 in County Durham on Sunday.
Ben Hopson took the photos of the incident which happened on the southbound carriageway of the A1 between Junction 60 and 61.
A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said the service received “quite a high volume of phone calls” and three appliances, from Durham, Spennymoor and Newton Aycliffe were sent to the scene just after 4.15pm.
One breathing apparatus and two hose reels were also used to combat the fire, which spread to nearby grassland. It was put out by 4.50pm.
The spokeswoman said the cause of the fire was not known but no one was injured.
