HARTLEPOOL UNITED have landed a second signing of the summer after securing the services of prolific Isthmian League striker Niko Muir.

Pools boss Matthew Bates, who landed defender Myles Anderson last month, has persuaded Muir to move to Victoria Park from Hendon.

It looks like an exciting deal for Hartlepool, who are believed to have paid around £10,000 for him believing that he has the potential to be a big hit in the North-East.

There was plenty of other interest in him but Hartlepool convinced him to make the step up to the National League, with Bates hoping to make his team a force to be reckoned with this season.

Muir, 24, completed a medical on Thursday and has signed the contract offered to him, having impressed teams like Hartlepool by scoring 40 goals in all competitions last season.

He is known to be a strong and powerful forward as well as being a regular in finding the net. He has previously had spells at Grays Athletic, Wingate & Finchley, VCD Athletic and Leiston as well as his two stints at Hendon.

Queens Park Rangers had watched him regularly last season but didn’t come up with an offer for him, so Hartlepool have swooped in ahead of pre-season training starting on Monday.

Hartlepool have moved training bases for next season. All of the age groups from Under-8s to first team will now train at Peterlee’s East Durham College; it has been a decision driven by director of football Craig Hignett.
