MOTORISTS have been issued with a reminder to lock their vehicles following a spate of break-ins across Stockton.

Over the course of seven days, between Monday, June 11 and Monday 18, 40 vehicles were reported to have been broken into, with the majority believed to have been left insecure.

According to Cleveland Police, the areas with the highest number of reports include Hartburn, Stockton town centre, Eaglescliffe, Fairfield, Newtown, Parkfield and Oxbridge.

Officers are reiterating their advice to members of the public to always ensure that vehicles are locked, and that all valuables are kept out of sight so that opportunist thieves aren’t tempted.

On Sunday, June 17, a 27-year-old man was charged with a theft from a motor vehicle on Sandown Road in Billingham. A satellite navigation system was allegedly stolen from a vehicle. The man is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court on Monday, July 16.

Anyone with information should call 101.
