AN adaptation of a popular novel inspired by true events is coming to Durham’s Gala.

Geraldine Brooks’ novel Year of Wonders has been adapted into a one-woman show starring Jane Arnfield as housemaid Anna Frith.

When an infected bolt of cloth carries plague to an isolated village in 1666, she must find the strength to confront the disintegration of her community.

The play sees Jane reprise her collaboration with director Mike Alfreds following last year’s production of The Tin Ring which toured to over 14 countries and played to thousands of audience members.

“We are all looking forward to bringing Year of Wonders to Gala which is a huge asset to the county and a great place for work like ours to be presented,” said Tony Harrington, executive director at The Forge theatre company who have produced the play.

“There is an appetite and audience in Durham for good quality performance work and I think all those who were wowed by The Tin Ring will be just as enthralled by this story.”

Tickets for the show at 1.30pm and 7.30pm on Thursday cost £10. Visit www.galadurham.co.uk to book or call the box office on 03000 266 600.
