AN artist is bringing two colourful installations to Bishop Auckland in a new exhibition this summer.

Writer and illustrator Rebecca Rose has created two interactive sculptures inspired by Durham City and the county’s musical and theatre traditions which will take pride of place in the town hall.

Visitors can walk onto the theatre sculpture which includes actors, a stage set and audiences, while the other depicts a group of lively musicians performing in front of the Durham skyline.

Several different metals left over from construction projects have been used to create the sculptures, which change in colour depending on the different angles and light.

Ms Rose said: “It feels fitting to be showcasing my work in a well-known County Durham landmark like Bishop Auckland Town Hall and its interactive nature means people of all ages should be able to take something from it.”

Visitors will also be able to take part in giant garden games including snakes and ladders, skittles and hop scotch.

The free exhibition will remain at the venue until August 31, during library hours.
