FIVE new mopeds will help unemployed and isolated people across Richmondshire find work and give them access to education and training.

They'll be operated through the Wheels 2 Work scheme which has helped over 1,000 people since being set up in 2000 by Hambleton Community Action. The aim is the new mopeds which have been partly paid for through a £3,856 grant from Richmondshire District Council will help 30 more people across the area over the next three years.

"Many young people find they have to move away from our more isolated areas because they cannot get to jobs, rural transport is an issue and they cannot always rely on family members to help," said Council Leader, Councillor Yvonne Peacock.

"Wheels 2 Work can change their lives by providing them with affordable transport. We want to encourage young people to stay living within our community and to support local businesses and this scheme helps us do that. It has already helped hundreds of Richmondshire residents and these new mopeds are set to help even more."
