Speeding cars

SHILDON neighbourhood policing team conducted a Speedwatch operation in the town on Monday. More than 100 cars’ speeds were assessed, seven of which were found to be exceeding the speed limit. Those motorists will receive a warning letter about their speed. A spokesperson said: “Three of these were found to be travelling at 39mph and one shockingly was travelling at 46mph, all in a 30mph zone. On a positive note, no vehicles were found to speeding around the school areas.”

Coach trip

CHILTON Town Council will run its first coach trip to South Shields on Saturday, August 11. Buses will depart from The Wheatsheaf at 9.30am and return from South Shields at 5pm. Cost £4.50 for adults and £3 for pensioners and three to 17-year-olds. Two-year-olds and under go free and can sit on a responsible adult’s lap. Children must be accompanied. Sixties night

THE West Cornforth branch of the Royal British Legion presents a Sixties night with music from Rue and The Rockets at West Cornforth Community Centre on Friday, August 17, 7pm. Tickets are £5 on 07931-430863 or on the door.

Garden fete

OUR Lady Immaculate and St Cuthbert’s Church in Crook will host its 47th annual garden fete on Saturday, June 30 in the grounds of the St Cuthbert’s Centre, Church Hill. It will be opened at 1pm by former Sunderland goalkeeper Jimmy Montgomery, who played in the 1973 FA Cup victory and opened the fete that year. There will be stalls, pony rides, dancing, football, bouncy slide, a grand draw and more. Entry is free.

Summer fair

ST LUKE’S Centre, Ferryhill, will hold a summer fair with stalls, refreshments, a tombola, raffle and facepainting on Saturday, June 30, 10.30am to 12.30pm.
