A MAN has been arrested after police chased a car on the A64, which allegedly reached speeds of up to 150mph.

North Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Group said the car was pursued after it failed to stop near Malton on Sunday night.

A spokesman for the group explained: "Whilst we were monitoring traffic on the A64 near Malton, we saw this vehicle perform a high speed overtake.

"During the pursuit that followed the vehicle reached speeds of up to 150mph as it travelled towards York.

"The pursuit was eventually brought to an end using tactical contact when the vehicle left the A64 near the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet."

The driver, a 21-year-old man from the Selby area, was arrested after a short foot chase, the spokesman added.

He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop and has been released under investigation as inquiries continue.
