THE British Landsailing Championship Regatta will return to the North-East this weekend.

Taking place on Coatham Sands on Majuba Road in Redcar today and tomorrow between 10am and 4pm, the free event will see the best land sailors in the country compete for high speed glory.

Councillor Carl Quartermain, cabinet member for culture, tourism and communications at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council said: “Not all sailing takes place on the high seas.

“If you have never seen a landsailing race, I can’t recommend it enough. The racers blast across the sand hitting up to 50 miles per hour, overtaking and outmanoeuvring each other.

“It’s a really exciting sport to watch and a great family day out.”

There will be at least 12 races throughout the weekend, which is the third of four rounds making up the 2018 British Landsailing Championship Regatta.

There will be free weekend parking in a number of the council run car parks across the town.
