FROM ice cream cones and floral bouquets, to the Cookie Monster, a charity cupcake competition attracted a host of creative entries.

The ISS Logistics team at Bishop Auckland Hospital organised the event to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society. They were thrilled with the response from hospital staff and the community, with 34 home bakers entering the contest and just under £700 raised for the charity.

The judging panel, which included doctors, nurses and managers, awarded prizes in three categories. Dental nurse Christine Walmsley triumphed in the Best Tasting Cupcake category, while Jayne Todd, outpatient receptionist, was the winner of the Best Named Cupcake. The Best Overall Cupcake prize went to health care assistant Carol Amos.

Logistics supervisor Jason Plews, who helped organise the event, said: “It was a fantastic day. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we raised funds for a very worthwhile cause.”
