A VEHICLE was set on fire in a residential area of a County Durham town.

Police in Newton Aycliffe are appealing for witnesses following the blaze in the Sugarhill Crescent area of Newton Aycliffe.

Officers believe the vehicle was set on fire at about 3.20am on Saturday.

A spokesperson for Newton Aycliffe Beat Team said: “At this time, two males were seen to run away from the scene, both were described as white males, approximately 16 years old.

“One of the males was wearing dark clothing, the other was wearing a blue hoody and grey jogging bottoms.

“Two males with similar descriptions were seen in Woodham at around 5am the same morning.”
