Fag-end fire

AN unattended cigarette is thought to have caused a fire in a chair at a home in Hutton Rudby shortly after 11.30pm on Sunday. The flames were out by the time fire crews arrived however they used breathing apparatus and foam extinguisher equipment to ensure that the fire was thoroughly extinguished before ventilating the property.

Church tea

ENJOY a strawberry tea and music at St Agatha’s Church, Easby, on June 17 from 2pm until 4.30pm. There will be homemade strawberry tea and 18th-century music with Susanna Pell on viola da gamba. Admission free, all proceeds from refreshments and bucket donations go to church funds and to The Old Grammar School Project, Richmond.

Charity cash

STAFF, regulars and guests at the Feathers Hotel in Helmsley have raised £1,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support through the hotel’s “Red Box” raffle, held every Sunday.

Classic cars

A FLEET of classic Wolseley motor cars visited Ryedale when the Wolseley Register organised its spring tour. Thirty-five members from the Uk and the Netherlands came to the district in 21 cars, spanning five decades of production, and based themselves in the Feathers Hotel in Helmsley.

Swing sound

THE sound of the Swing era of the mid 1930s stomps into Helmsley Arts Centre on Saturday, June 16, at 7.30pm, when John Petters’ Quartet performs Swing - a tribute to Benny Goodman and Gene Krupa.
