A VILLAGE is gearing up to host its annual scarecrow festival, which will feature entertainment throughout the community.

Appleton Wiske Scarecrow Festival will take place on Saturday, July 7 and Sunday, July 8 and is set to feature topical and imaginative scarecrows on a trail throughout the village near Stokesley.

Quilts made by local crafts people will be display in the church and the chapel will host an art exhibition and sale of crafts.

There will be refreshments including homemade cakes in the village hall, along with hot dogs and hamburgers. There will also be a tombola and raffle.

Prizes include a decorated scarecrow cake, farm shop hamper and a mystery prize.

Amongst the scarecrows will be a plant stall and candy floss and ice-creams on offer. Children can also make their own miniature scarecrows and take part in a treasure hunt.

Entrance is £2 per adult and free for children. Parking is free at the village hall or nearby.

All proceeds will go towards the upkeep of village facilities.
