A SCHEME to improve the lives of people living with dementia has been launched.
Redcar and Cleveland is to become one of just a handful of official ‘dementia friendly’ areas in the country.
The borough council is working with partners, including the Ageing Well Action Alliance, Clevearc and Alzheimer’s Society, to improve knowledge and awareness of dementia, in a variety of places including shops, opticians, hairdressers, pharmacies and dentists.
The project aims to ensure that people living with the condition can remain active and included within their communities.
Councillor Lynn Pallister, cabinet member for health and housing, said: “This is an excellent project which will really make a difference.
Organisations wanting to make their own organisation more Dementia Friendly are asked to contact browcroft@clevearc.com or vanessa.newlands@redcar-cleveland.gov.uk or call 01642 488977.
