A MOTORIST stopped by police on the A64 in North Yorkshire at the weekend was almost five times the drink driving limit, it has been alleged.
North Yorkshire Police tweeted that a member of the public and an off-duty police officer had both reported that a vehicle was being driven very erratically on the road near Malton on the evening of Sunday, May 28.
Officers from the force's Roads Policing Group stopped and breathalysed the motorist who was driving a small Vauxhall car.
Sergeant Paul Cording tweeted: “The driver provided a roadside breath sample of 175mg.
"That’s five times the legal limit to drive of 35mg.”
The driver was arrested by officers at the roadside.
While in custody he was tested and according to the officer provided a breath sample for evidence of 174mg.
Sgt Cording said: “Huge thank you to the member of public who called this in."
He added: "Please continue to call in and we will respond.”
