STUDENTS will once again be supported with a subsidised travel scheme, it has been confirmed.

New College Durham has announced students will be given help with travel costs so they can continue their studies.

The scheme means that full time students aged between 16 to 19, who live more than three miles away from the college, will be able to travel using local bus networks.

The college works with Go North East and Arriva bus services and students must be enrolled on a full time course.

College principal John Widdowson said: “Despite the serious funding and financial challenges FE colleges are experiencing currently, we will continue to support travel for our students.

“We will pledge to continue our investment into the travel scheme for the 2018-19 academic year.

“Through the scheme we can ensure young people from across the region can access a quality college education at New College Durham and gain the skills and qualifications they need to progress or gain employment.

“We have always received extremely positive feedback from students, many of who would not be able to attend the college, if the travel scheme wasn’t available.”

Full details, including terms and conditions relating to the scheme are available on the college website.
