VISITORS to a market town's 1940s weekend will be able to get up close to military vehicles.

That's as the Durham Tees Valley Military Vehicle Club will be providing seven military vehicles for the event in Bishop Auckland, on Saturday, June 9, from 10am until 4pm.

Club members, Bob and Pauline Parkins, of Spennymoor, brought two of their favourite vehicles down to the market place this week.

Mrs Parkins said the couple loved everything about the era and were "proud to display the vehicles with respect".

She added: "People are fascinated with the vehicles but we are fascinated with the veterans and we'd encourage people to come along and enjoy the atmosphere."

The event is set to bring the 1940s to life with live performances from The Fenner Sisters, the Sound Waves Community Choir and the Sandra Welsh School of Dance.

Local businesses are also joining in by decorating their shop windows and dressing up in 1940s costume.

The event is organised by the Bishop Auckland Town Team and sponsored by Bishop Auckland Town Council.
