MEMBERS of the public are being urged to be vigilant in Newton Aycliffe following reports of alleged bogus calls being made from HMRC.

Three residents contacted police in the town yesterday morning to report calls being made from someone claiming to be from the government department.

A spokesperson for police wrote on Facebook: "Please do not disclose any personal details over the telephone. Such organisations would not ask you for bank details, and would not contact you via telephone if you were due a refund."

Family service

A FAMILY gathering and short service will be held at St Luke’s Parish Centre, Church Lane, Ferryhill, on Sunday, at 4.30pm. The church launched the informal services in January to appeal to more families and young people. Family event A FUN day will be held in Chilton during the half term holiday. Chilton Town Council will host Fun in the Park at the Pentlands play area on Friday, June 1, 11am to 3pm. Attractions will include a children’s funfair ride, inflatable slide (weather permitting), catering and entertainment from Llewellyn for Fun including Punch & Judy shows, balloon modelling and facepainting.

Messy play

LITTLE Learners Spennymoor will hold messy play and mark making sessions for preschool children at St David’s Church Hall, Tudhoe, on Mondays, June 11 and 25 and July 2 and 9, from 1.30pm to 2.30pm. There will be no class on June 18. For tickets visit littlelearnersuk.com

A GARDEN tea party will be held at Woodside House, Witton Park, on Sunday, June 10, from 1pm to 5pm.
