VETERANS are being invited to have a go at developing their carving skills under the expert eye of a master craftsman.

It's part of the Healthy Horizons Scheme which helps people aged over 65 who have served in the armed forces or the Merchant Navy.

A pop up shed which has been opened in Richmond is staging the event on Thursday May 24. Veterans are being given the chance to carve wooden poppies alongside craftsman Terry Harrington. The shed is fully equipped as a woodworking and crafts centre where people can also upcycle and mend furniture, as well as try their hand at other skills including painting photography and writing.

This week's session takes place from 10am to 3pm at the shed, at the council depot, Gallowfields trading estate in Richmond. Contact the Healthy Horizons Team on 01748 829100 or email exforces@richmondshire.gov.uk.
