THE owners of a listed building have been left with a “hefty” bill after £150,000 worth of lead was stolen from the roof.
The lead was taken from Axwell Hall, in Blaydon.
The theft was reported in November but police have so far been unable to identify those responsible.
It is thought the offenders may have made more than one trip to the building, which was under construction at the time, between the beginning of September and the day of the report.
Detective Constable Stuart Taylor said: “This theft has left the owners of the property significantly out of pocket and with a hefty repair bill.
“There will be people out there who know who is responsible and we would ask you to come forward and report this to police.”
