A MAN has appeared in court following a bank robbery.
Simon Jones, 37, of West Auckland, was charged on Friday after the raid in Bishop Auckland on Thursday.
During the incident, a man entered the Natwest bank on Newgate Street and handed a threatening note to a staff member, before making off with a quantity of cash.
Jones is charged with robbery, taking a vehicle without consent, driving otherwise than in accordance with a license, and driving without insurance.
He appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court on Saturday and will next appear at Duham Crown Court on June 18.
He has been remanded into custody.
