FOUR budding boxers are preparing to head across the Irish Sea to take part in an international competition.
Bishop Auckland Boxing Club will be represented when the fighters compete in the Monkstown International Box Cup in Ireland next month.
Alex Pickering, 15, Gavin Allison, 15, and Jack Dobson, 14, will put their ability to the test as they go head to head in their age and weight categories, while ten-year-old Mason Beasley will take part in skill-learning sessions.
Club coach Matthew Stephenson, who will accompany the boys with head coach Daniel Waite, said: “There will be people there from America and all over the world.”
The club has already raised £1,000 to get the team over to the tournament, but they are still seeking support and sponsorship.
“We’re a non-profit boxing club so whatever we make it will cover the basics,” added Mr Stephenson.
