THOUSANDS of runners will be taking part in the 2018 Run Sunderland Festival tomorrow.

Now in its eighth year, the event has attracted more than 4,000 entries for the Siglion Sunderland City Half Marathon and 10K, including some of the leading club runners in the region and hundreds of fun runners and participants who will be raising money for good causes, including official event charity, St Benedict’s Hospice.

The theme for this year’s event is #runwiththetide, as the city builds up to hosting the Tall Ships Races in July.

Among the runners will be a group of sail trainees who are preparing to join a crew on a tall ship and will be tackling the 10k as part of their training.

The Sunderland BIG 3K will start at 9am, the 10K will start at 10am and the half marathon will start at 10.25am.
