PAINTBALL, firefighters and Second World War Land Girls were among the attractions in Durham city this weekend.

A uniformed services fun day took place on Sunday while a Second World War nostalgia day attracted hundreds of people yesterday.

Both events took place in a variety of city centre locations, including Durham Market Place, the market hall, Prince Bishops shopping centre and Walkergate.

Sunday’s fun day included an Army paintball range, police vehicles and the fire service’s aerial platform and smoke house as well as music by Alan Owen, The Forum Big Band and Chester-le-Street Salvation Army.

The Nostalgia Day featured live period music, living history re-enactments, Lindy Jazz dancers, vintage double decker buses and Land Girls.

There was also a vintage and general market in the Market Place, while traders in the indoor market donned 1940s costumes. Visitors enjoyed the sights and sounds of wartime Britain with a living history tableau, live music, dancing and more.

People also had the opportunity to get up close with military vehicles and equipment from the time and learn more about Britain during the war.
