A 76-year-old woman involved in a crash on the Spine Road, near Cramlington, on Monday has died.

At about 9.29am on Monday, police received a report of a three-vehicle collision on the southbound carriageway, prior to the junction for the B1326.

It is believed that two vehicles – a silver Skoda and a black Kia – were involved in the collision as they attempted to avoid a third vehicle, a grey Vauxhall, which is thought to have broken down in one lane.

One passenger was taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. She died yesterday.

No one else was seriously injured.

One driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Another driver was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and anyone with information, or who may have dashcam footage, is asked to get in touch on 101 to assist officers with their investigation.
