RAF personnel have marked 100 years of the Royal Air Force by walking 100km of the Cleveland Way.

Members of 607 (Co of Durham) Squadron, based at RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire, completed their continuous 100km route which took them through some of North Yorkshire and the North-East’s most beautiful countryside, taking them past Roseberry Topping, Saltburn and Robin Hood’s Bay, before finishing at Filey.

A core team of six personnel carried out the full walk along a stretch of the Cleveland Way, while a support team joined them for some of the way and provided vital refreshment, medical support and morale.

The core party carrying out the walk consisted of full time members of 607 Squadron: FSgt Watson, Sgt MacDonald, Sgt Hayward, Cpl Kirk, Cpl Garforth and Cpl Whittcomb. Other members of the squadron completed parts of the walk.

The journey was completed in less than 28 hours.

Squadron Warrant Officer, Kevin Hamilton-Sturdy, said: “I am proud of the team and to be part of RAF 100.

"A large credit goes to the support team as well as the core walkers. Without them, none of this would have happened.”
