A SELFLESS grandfather who was told three months ago that his prostate cancer was terminal has been awarded for continuing his volunteer work.
Terry Bytheway, 68, was already offering support to James Cook University Hospital patients as a therapeutic care volunteer when he was given the terminal diagnosis in January.
However, Mr Bytheway, from Coulby Newham, Middlesbrough, is determined to help others despite his own ill health and has received a Teesside Hero award from the Teesside Philanthropic Foundation.
He said: “Helping others is almost like therapy for me. I didn’t want to hide.
“I know I’ve got cancer but I’m not worried about it even thought it’s incurable.”
