A VILLAGE postmaster was threatened by a robber who then fled the scene, with a box of cash, on a motorbike.
Police attended reports of a robbery at Hunwick Post office, near Crook, at around 11.30am yesterday.
It is believed the suspect entered the shop, on Wear View, and threatened the owner before making off with a cash box containing a large amount of money. It is not thought anyone was hurt.
The suspect was described as being in his 20’s, of large build and was wearing an Adidas tracksuit with blue stripes. He was also seen in a black helmet with a rockstar symbol on the side and a balaclava underneath.
He made off towards Crook on a motorbike and officers continue to search for him.
A Post Office spokeswoman said any robbery is traumatic for those involved and it will support police efforts to catch those responsible. She apologised for the temporary closure of the branch.
Witnesses are asked to contact Durham Police on 101, quoting incident 125 of April 25 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555111.
