HUNDREDS of people – including an MP – took part in the Stockton Duathlon event at the weekend.

Dr Paul Williams, Labour MP for Stockton South, was one of 700 athletes taking part in the running and cycling race, which incorporated a sprint and standard event.

Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton Borough Council's cabinet member for arts, leisure and culture, said: “The Stockton Duathlon is always a popular event and this year was no exception,

“There were people of all ages and abilities, and the fact that part of the event acts as a qualifier for an international competition meant we had everyone from ambitious athletes to families who just came for the fun. It’s a lovely course on the banks of the Tees too, and we’re already looking forward to welcoming thousands more people when we have our very first Simplyhealth Great Tees 10k event in September."
