THE region celebrated the 92nd birthday of Her Majesty The Queen with a 21-gun Royal Salute in York today.

Her Majesty’s real birthday was marked by a Saluting Troop from 4th Regiment Royal Artillery who fired three 105 mm Light Guns at ten second intervals watched by hundreds of spectators in the city’s Museum Gardens.

The troops and band were inspected by The Chief Fire Officer for County Durham and Darlington, Stuart Errington who was accompanied by the Deputy Commander of 4th Infantry Brigade, Colonel Andy Hadfield.

The Band of The Yorkshire Regiment led by the Director of Music, Captain Gary Clegg marched through the city’s streets to Museum Gardens to play at the event.

York is the saluting station for the North of England and joined the 11 other saluting stations around the UK in simultaneously firing a gun salute. York was given the honour to commemorate the 1,900th anniversary of the city in 1971.

The Queen’s official birthday in June will also be marked with a Royal Salute throughout the UK and the Trooping of the Colour in London.
