A CHILDREN'S entertainer has lost her job after assaulting a police officer when she was thrown out of a nightclub.

Mellisande Dalton was on a night out in Darlington when she was removed from the nightclub, before police arrested her on Skinnergate because she was throwing punches at her boyfriend.

She pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly, and assaulting a police officer in the execution of his duty, when she appeared before magistrates in Newton Aycliffe on Thursday.

The 18-year-old bar worker and children's entertainer had since lost her job because she had been upfront with her employers about her court appearance, magistrates were told.

Alan Davison, prosecuting, said: "She was throwing punches towards a man and shouting so she was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

"She kicked her leg over, hitting the officer in the shin, before being taken to the ground.

"In interview she said she had an argument with her boyfriend but couldn't remember anything else."

Dave Smith, in mitigation, said: "This was not a proud moment for my client, she loses her good character today.

This is a chapter of her life she wishes to consign to the past. They were in a club and she was ejected from there.

"She didn't feel as if her boyfriend had dealt with it as chivalrously as he could have done as he remained in the club.

"She struck him a couple of times and as she was being carted away she kicked out behind her at what she believed to be her boyfriend.

"It hit the police officer.

"She understands it was an unpleasant incident against an officer trying to do his job."

She had since lost her job, he said, after informing her employer.

Magistrates fined her £40 and ordered her to pay £50 compensation, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
