A PENSIONER was seriously injured after being knocked over by a cow.

The woman, believed to be in her 70s, was hurt by the animal in Frosterley, Weardale, shortly before 12.15pm today.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service was called to assist the woman who was suffering from a serious chest injury.

She was assessed and treated by a paramedic and doctor team before being airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle.

The flight took ten minutes and the patient arrived in a stable condition.
