DRUNK thieves attempting to flee police had to abandon their slow-moving vehicle after realising a tractor could not outpace a police car.
In one of the most unusual police pursuits early on Friday morning, the hapless criminals in east Cleveland were soon spotted by police.
They attempted to flee but soon realised their efforts were fruitless and they would be quicker on foot.
Cleveland and Durham Roads Policing Unit said on Facebook: "An unusual police pursuit occurred in East Cleveland last night involving a stolen tractor.
"The tractor was followed to the Coast Road, Redcar, where the two occupants ditched the slow-moving tractor, making off on foot (at a slightly faster pace).
"Both were soon detained and are currently sobering up in Middlesbrough Custody Office's finest en-suite before facing the music."
