FOOD lovers heading to a popular culinary festival this weekend can take advantage of a park and ride service.

Bishop Auckland Food Festival is expected to attract thousands of people to the market town on Saturday and Sunday.

To help guarantee an enjoyable stress-free day for all, organisers Durham County Council have organised a special bus service from Bishop Auckland College's main campus on Woodhouse Lane and back every 15 minutes.

The service will run on both days, with the first bus setting off at 9.45am and the last bus leaving the festival site, from the rear of Wetherspoons at 5.30pm.

Tickets are £2 return for adults, 50p for children between six and 15 and free for children five and under.

A number of road closures will also be in place in and around the market place. These include: Castle Chare and the Market Place, including the parking bays, from the junction with North Bondgate and Durham Road from 5am on Friday to 9pm on Sunday; and Fore Bongate between Finkle Street and Newgate Street on Saturday and Sunday, from 7am to 9pm.

There will also be two-way traffic lights in operation between Wear Chare and North Bondgate on both days to allow access to Wear Chare, Diall Stobb Hill and Binchester.

There will be no access to Durham Road from North Bondgate.
