A MAN was arrested in connection with an attack on two women in County Durham.

Diane Brown, of Newton Aycliffe was left unconscious and with broken front teeth following an unprovoked attack on her and friend, Debbie Scanlon, 53, who suffered facial injuries.

The incident happened at Silverdale Place, in Newton Aycliffe, at 10.50pm on Friday, March 23.

Durham Police last night confirmed a 43-year-old man was arrested two weeks later on April 6 on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

A spokesperson for the force said he has been released under investigation.

Following the attack, Ms Brown, also 53 and a grandmother-of-five, was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital before being transferred to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough for further treatment.

A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault on the night of the incident but was then released with no further action.
