MARTIAL arts students are preparing to compete at an international contest.
Members of the Chikara Dojo of Kyokushin Karate based in Spennymoor will take part in the Kyokushin Full Contact Welsh Championships in Barry, South Wales.
They will take part in kata (pre arranged attack and defensive moves) and full contact, knockdown fighting. The event can last all day and see combatants face several fighters.
Connor Colledge, a 1st Dan instructor who will himself compete, said: "Our students have been preparing for this event for some time. We always do well when we attend competitions and I am sure this one will be no exception. I am looking forward to seeing members of Team Chikara do what they do best."
Six members of the club faired well in recent gradings. White belt Lee O’Neill double graded to orange belt black stripe, Bradley Hall gained his blue belt, Lee Corner his yellow, and Keeley Nixon her yellow belt black stripe. Cameron Dobson achieved blue belt and fellow junior Amy Lowes moved up to green belt black stripe.
