RUMOURS of an attempted abduction at one of the region's busiest shopping mall yesterday have been dispelled by police.

Northumbria Police said it was aware of fears that such an incident had occurred at intu Eldon Square, in Newcastle, but the force believe it to be untrue rumours which started online.

A spokesperson said: "We are aware of posts currently circulating on social media regarding an alleged attempted abduction at intu Eldon Square earlier today (April 16).

"Officers carried out enquiries and can confirm no reports have been made to police and there is no intelligence to suggest this is true."
