MOTORISTS faced a headache after the closure of major roads as firefighters tackle a factory fire.
The A1 was also closed earlier, but has since reopened, as firefighters continue to deal with a factory blaze in Blaydon Gateshead.
The Chain Bridge Road was closed in both directions between Blaydon and Scotswood, but has now been reopened.
A spokeswoman from the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said: "We are dealing with a fire in a factory in Blaydon.
"We have got five appliances in total in attendance, with 18 people on scene."
As well as tailbacks on the A1, there is heavy traffic on surrounding roads, as a 200m cordon has been set up, meaning congestion on the A1114 Riverside Way and very slow-moving traffic on the A695 Chain Bridge Road.
